There are periods throughout the year when time can drag. Providing an activity that can be done at any time and by a wide range of individuals can reduce boredom and introduce a bit of fun. Scavenger hunts are such an activity. In this hunt, there are 14 birds. Their likenesses are placed around the facility in an manner that will require the resident to search for them. (So, not too obvious.) A list of birds is available to any resident who wishes to go on a bird hunt. As they locate each bird from the list, they mark it off. After a week or maybe two, move the birds around so they will provide more interest to the hunters. Ambulatory individuals and those with walkers are able to perform this activity independently once given directions. Individuals in wheelchairs can participate as well given a staff member to help them navigate the facility.
