Musical chairs requires a fairly large space, two therapists, one object to pass, and some great music.

The target population of players includes residents in wheelchairs.  Park players in a large circle, introduce the object, and begin the music.  Players are instructed to pass the object to the player next to them.  The passing of the item continues until the music stops.  The player holding the item when the music stops is the “runner” and is moved out of the circle by the therapist and pushed in a quick manner all around the outside of the circle and back to their spot.

The music is resumed, and the object is again passed from player to player.  Residents love the “ride” around the circle.  The music provides auditory stimulation, the passing of the item provides upper body activity, and the ride provides physical stimulation.
