This activity is designed for cognitively active residents who may be experiencing the beginning of recall/retrieval difficulties.  Choosing participants with fairly equal skills will make for a better group with more benefit for participants.  The exercises in this activity are intended to provide brain muscle exercise.

It is important to provide equal opportunity for each participant and as much memory exercise as possible.  Requiring an alphabetical answer mode and turn-taking provides for more participation and thought.

A large round table is the perfect setting for this group as it is important that participants have a clear view of each other as a means of facilitating conversation.  Four to eight participants in a good number.

Use a dry erase board to list their answers as given and to display questions when required.

The group can begin by “remembering” the day, the month, and the date.  They may also be called upon to recall the names of fellow participants before beginning the activity.  This group should meet two to three times per week.
