Morsels & More is a cooking activity for those individuals who still enjoy slicing, dicing, and tasting something they have made.  Recipes are chosen for their ingredients.  There must be a variety of vegetables plus other food items that require preparation so that each participant actually has a job to do.  The recipes that follow have all been used in a Morsels & More group and have proved to be adequate in the provision of physical participation and taste.

Time is often a factor in the cooking process.  I have precooked whole potatoes until just “not hard.”  This makes it easier for participants to dice and quicker to cook.  This can also be done with carrots, parsnips, turnips, etc.

You might think that wielding a knife is a risky activity for our elderly but Morsels & More is a very popular activity in our nursing home and you may be surprised at how well your participants handle a paring knife and how much they enjoy making a meal again.

The facilitator does the actual standing-at-the-stove cooking.  If you have four or more participants, you should have at least two facilitators.
