This is a simple activity that is appropriate for many skill levels. The only requirements are the ability to squeeze a glue bottle and the fine motor skill to pick up small puzzle pieces.
You will need several circles cut from green tag board. A diameter of 8 to 10 inches makes a good size. Trace a smaller circle inside the original one, leaving a band of 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide. Cut the two circles and you will have a “wreath” shape in tag board.
You also need an old puzzle. Pick one up at the second hand store but be sure to check the backs of the pieces. You want puzzle pieces with green backs.
Lay newspaper on the work area and provide a tag board circle and a bottle of glue for each participant. Lay a collection of puzzle pieces near each artist and direct them to glue the pieces onto the tag board, upside down, so the green side is up. Be sure to tell them the pieces must be close together. Once the wreath has been covered with one layer of puzzle pieces, direct participants to glue on a second layer, overlapping the pieces in the first and then do a third layer.
Mix Elmer’s glue with water and brush the glue mixture over the wreath. Quickly sprinkle with white or clear glitter. Add small groupings of red beads and attach a ribbon with hot glue.
