“Feel” Boxes
This is a tactile activity. Collect items that have a specific texture and can be distinguished from all other materials.
Fake fur Squishy ball Steel bolt
Marble Plastic worms Crochet piece
Flannel Sea shell Polished rock
Burlap Yarn ball Large emery board
Satin Small Brush Sandpaper (Coarse)
Place items in a cardboard box. Close the lid and cut a round hole in one end. Ask the resident to reach in, grab one item and feel it. Can they tell you what it is before they pull it out? Give some clues. Is it soft? Is it smooth? etc. Pull the item out and let others feel the texture.
