You can choose your own name or acronym for this group, but it is organized to meet the needs of residents who fall between the Montessori class and the more challenging cognitive groups. These residents have some cognitive abilities that they still enjoy exercising.
A small gathering works best, three to five participants. The work area should be somewhat private, quiet, and with as few distractions as possible, an empty dining room, family room, library, or some other space where there is no through traffic.
These residents are often not involved in other group activities to this PAST offering should be made at least three times a week, more if possible.
When presenting participants with the puzzle, question, or choice, verbalize it clearly with as few words as possible and use a visual aid whenever you can. Provide variety, physical challenges as well as cognitive. Your enthusiasm is important as well as your sense of humor. Make it fun!
