Card holders can be purchased from a number of catalogs or from a retail shop. Many of these purchased models are too light and easily tipped over or are simply user unfriendly. In light of this, we have made our own.
Making a card holder is quite simple. You will need:
*A length of 1×8 pine board, length determined by the number of holders you plan to make.
*A table saw for cutting the grooves.
* Sanding materials, could be sand paper or a sanding block.
* Paints if you plan to embellish with a design.
* A finishing product, such as, a clear gloss spray or paint on product that will make the holder washable.
Cut the board into the appropriate length for each holder, 7 to 8 inches.
Adjust the table saw’s blade to protrude 3/8 of an inch. Practice the depth on a scrap of board. You don’t want to go too deep or the holder will be weakened.
Cut four grooves the length of the board, leaving a space between of approximately 1 1/2 inches.
Sand all exposed edges and finish, either by painting a design or simply painting with the clear product. If painting a design, cover with clear product as well.
