This activity is for those residents who have a little money and who are able to shop. A cart is stocked with small inexpensive items that residents might like to purchase. The therapist travels from room to room (of appropriate residents only; you must know your residents) and offers the items for sale. Popular items include hair products, hand mirrors, candies and chips not available at the nursing home, gum, cough drops, chapstick, small bottles of body mist, knick-knacks, Vienna sausages, sardines, scarves, note pads, pens, coin purses, writing tablets, soft things for great-grandchildren, clip earrings, brooches, and other specific items to your population. The cart is stocked with items from a dollar store and will cost the resident a dollar or less.
