If you have an IN2L, the Wheel of Fortune can be played on that device.  However, if you do not have an IN2L, or if you would like more hands-on participation from residents, a homemade wheel game works very well.

Our game is simply a white tag board with the colored and printed design of the wheel.  It is mounted on a piece of display foam from Wal-Mart.  There is a plastic washer beneath the wheel to hold it off the foam so it can spin freely and a screw that comes up through the bottom with a capped nut on the top.

The wheel was placed on the foam so that a portion of it hung over, giving players a place to grasp the wheel when making a spin.  Then the whole board was decorated with the name and a pointer to designate the color and monetary amount played.

We use a dry erase board to keep track of winnings so accumulations can be easily followed.  The board is moved around so each player makes his/her own spin.

The Wheel of Fortune game is played in a manner similar to the television program. The puzzle words are chosen from one of three categories; person, place, or thing. Participants are given the clue as to its category and then the game begins.

Print the alphabet across the top of the dry erase board so players can keep track of the letters already chosen and those left to choose from.

Once a participant spins the wheel, he/she may choose a letter that is not a vowel. If that letter appears in the word, the dollar amount on the wheel is listed under that participant’s name. Should that player actually win the set, the money amount is kept in their “bank” and cannot be lost. Vowels must be purchased for $20.00 each.
